Saturday Artisan: Stitches by Ashley Nicole

Meet Ashley our Saturday Artisan!

If you are looking for great quality coasters along with great customer service, her shop, Stitches by Ashley Nicole, is one to visit for sure.

Without further a due, let's get to know her a little bit, shall we?

Tell us a bit about yourself and what arts/ crafts that you make?

Hi! I'm Ashley Nicole, the Work at Home Mom (WAHM) behind Stitches by Ashley Nicole. I am married to my best friend and have two boys - a 3 year old and a six month old.
I make handmade items for the home. My items serve both a functional and a décor need. My main items are coasters; placemats; and pot holders. All of my items are machine washable and handmade by me. However, my older son is a big fan of the fabric store and helping to pick out new prints to add to my shop.

How does your workspace look like?

I'd say organized chaos. I know where almost everything is, but to someone else it probably looks like a huge mess because I have works in progress spread out all over.

Which part of creation process that you enjoy the most?

Choosing what to pair together. I love find complementary fabrics and prints to pair together.

For us who love to travel, could you share a bit about your beautiful town/ city?

I live in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio and honestly, there isn't much about the scenery that I find attractive. It's pretty flat and mostly farmland where there aren't shops and office buildings or hospitals. However, there is a lot to do here because it's both the state capital and the home of The Ohio State University.

What is your best seller?

My best seller is the coaster sets. They're sets of four square, machine washable, fabric coasters that are approximately 4" wide. Due to the nature of being handmade, there is some variation in size, but usually only millimeters in difference.

Saturday Artisan: Terrills Tiles

Meet Leann of Terrills Tiles, our Saturday Artisan, another hardworking mom. Her beautfiul creations are great for home-decor, perfect if you are looking for earth feeling gifts. But what what caught my eyes in the first place was her tic tac toes games. They're simply adorable and great for kids.

Tell us a bit about yourself and what arts/ crafts that you make?

Hello all! My name is Leann Terrill, I make pretty much anything you can with tiles from coasters to candle trivets and tic tac toe games.I started making coasters for my home to match my décor.I have an English Bulldog so of course that was the first set I made. As friends would come over they would request would they would like. Pretty soon their friends wanted some and then I started doing craft shows. Once I heard about Etsy.com I had to give it a whirl. I have only been on Etsy for 2 months and it has been so fun.

What is your favourite item in your shop?

My favourite item in my shop are the Tile Tic Tac Toe games. You can do so many different kinds and they are so fun to do custom for people who have two favourite animals or teams or favourite stars. They are a lot of fun.

What is your best seller?

I have 2 best sellers, the moose tile coasters and the English Bulldog tile coasters

How does your day go in general?

I am a single mother of two beautiful teenage girls. I get up at 4:00 AM to start working on my items, checking Etsy for sales and packing to go to the post office. After I get the kids off to school I stop at the post office to mail my orders and then off to my full time job at the bank. After work and on the weekends I am all about making my creations and promoting on Etsy and spending quality time with my girls.

Do you have a favourite Etsy seller?

I have so many favourite sellers it is hard to choose. A few shops that are a must to visit are: jujulee, redneckcandles, and antiquebasketlady

What inspires you?

My family, blue skies and warm days inspire me

What is your goal for 2010?

To live life to the fullest and try something new continuously.

Any advice for a newbie running his or her on-line shop?

Take great pictures, read all of the rules on Etsy before starting anyything, and just take all constructive criticism and use it wisely....you can never have enough input.

During this recession time, tell us one thing that you do to save money?

I definitely clip coupons, shop sales and am very inventive with my kids for entertainment!

So grab your hot drink, sit down and pleasurely browse her shop, you may find something you like to give as a gift or keeping it yourself :-)
