Saturday Artisan: Vector Cloud

Meet Amelia, the artist behind Vector Cloud. Intriquing and unique handmade items that you won't find anywhere else.

Get to know her a little bit through the interview below. Find out how she could have life-work balance, running her Etsy shop while at the same time enjoying her family time.

Tell us a bit about yourself and what arts/ crafts that you make?

My Name is Amelia and I live in Queens, New York. I am a product designer who thoroughly cherish my independence as an “indie” designer and a new mother. When I am not busy creating, I love hanging out with my family and friends, like going out for a picnic, taking my baby and dog to the park, or barbecuing in the backyard with the neighbors.

My Etsy store, Vectorcloud focuses on laser cut/engraved products which range from jewelry to home decors. People have described my products style as being unique, retro, or urban pop.

How does your day go in general?

I have recently been getting up early in the morning to attend my son, Noah, then after enjoying breakfast with my husband, I catch up with emails. My schedule usually depends on how many orders I have to make and mail that day, as well as Noah’s ever changing nap schedule. I then try to get as much housework out of the way, before I begin working on my computer and creating more products. By the evening, I dedicate my time to my family, watching our favorite TV shows, having dinner, and hanging out with my husband and son.

What is your favourite tool that you cannot live without?

A sketchbook and a pen. I always have the need to sketch or simply write my ideas down anywhere anytime.

What inspires you?

Many things inspire me. I especially love old fashioned items, simple everyday objects that once were mundane, but now become so adored and cherished.

Anything else you would like to share?

Besides designing and making my own products, I also do custom work and service. So if you like my work, but can’t find exactly what you’re looking for, I would love to work with you. Email me or visit my store.

  1. Oh, I love the little cassette jewelry! And enjoyed reading the interview :)

  2. I love all the laser cut designs...Your shop has been a favorite of mine since some time!

  3. She is such an amazing wood worker, and I learned that she has enough time to do this even with her son Noah!

  4. Ive seen you on etsy and looved your work!! I think it would be cool to make a polaroid necklace/earrings or mini calendar necklace..I love the natural and yet technological look!!

  5. I love your shop. The wall clock, cassette and photo necklaces are great. My idea would be a laser cut bangle bracelet design...maybe where you could put a photo in too. Thanks!

  6. such fun pieces- creative ideas for jewelry!

  7. I love your designs! I'd love to see more of the fun photo necklaces, like the chunky old camera one!

  8. I love your work. :)

Have you considered injecting more color into your pieces?

  9. Your designs are so cute! And congrats on being a new mom (:

I'd really love to see more designs (like animals or just everyday items around the house like office tools, kitchen appliances etc) and have them made with other materials like surgical stainless steel or sterling silver. Just something that's a bit more sturdy and can be cleaned easily :D

  10. I'm new to your shop and quite impressed! I, too, would love to see more old cameras or perhaps other easily recognizable items and pieces of furniture. Something for hair (like barrettes) would be really great, too!

  11. I love following blogs because you get to discover really amazing shops on Etsy. And those necklaces definitely make my top list. I don't know if this is at ALL possible, or how much time it would take (I personally couldn't even attempt to do anything with wood), but maybe you could have an open spot that says "request piece". So if someone wanted a heart made out of wood and you could evaluate the cost, and price that for them.

  12. Thank you for the wonderful commentaries! All the ideas have been 'stored' in my old little sketchbook :D Do check out our store often for new products and become our Facebook Fans for updates (new products, giveaway, etc). Best of Luck! xo,Amelia

  13. I love the items you create, especially the retro feel to many of them. I could relate to you saying that those once mundane objects now become cherished and maybe even coveted. It's not just that vintage is "fashionable" nowadays, but some 'old' items are simply so precious!
