Saturday Artisan: thefrogbag
Tell us a bit about yourself and what arts/ crafts that you make?
I'm a zoo keeper by day, crafter and writer by night. I have a passion for tapir conservation, frogs, and beads. I think that's reflected quite a bit in my shop; I tend to work lots of animals into my jewelry, needle and bead work, and especially cat toys. My first graphic novel, Heathentown, was published by Image Comics earlier this year, which made me insanely happy.
What is your favorite item in your shop?
I think my favorite item is the Glamorous Felt Sea Anemone Soft Sculpture.
What is your best seller?
Do you have a favorite Etsy seller?
I have lots of favorite etsy sellers! Of course, my husband Gabriel Hardman's shop is wonderful. I'm also a big vintage fan, so I adore Calloocallay's shop.
During this recession time, tell us one thing that you do to save money?
Well, one thing we've been doing to save money is not buying fancy coffee at Starbucks and Coffee Bean so much anymore! At first that was a hard adjustment, but now I really like the ritual of brewing a cup of strong coffee and taking it into the studio with me. Less time in line getting coffee means more time to create!
Anything else you want to share?
I donate a percentage of every sale to the Tapir Preservation Fund, a nonprofit that works to preserve tapirs and their rainforest home.
Thefrogbag has so many great and unique arts/ carfts at her shop. Have a cup of tea, sit down and enjoy browsing her shop.

My Prince
Ethan is 2 years old and he's not a baby anymore BUT he is still MY baby. An adorable one :-)
I'd better scrapbook his pictures or I may never get to it. If you're a scrapbooker, you know that this is one-never-ending project and a hard one to commit with.

Saturday Artisan: Dryan327
In my opinion, she has a successful shop. Gorgeous selection of jewelries available. Let's find out more about her.
Tell us a bit about yourself and what arts/ crafts that you make?
I am a retired (very young & energetic) mother, wife & up and coming hand crafter turning a hobby into a stay at home job. I have two wonderful children a son who is 25 & a daughter who is 20.
How does your day go in general?
I get up have a cup of coffee, check emails and my site, respond to everyone/customers, package up any sales before the mailman comes and then go make more jewelry, take pictures of the pieces, download them to my site, and go out on the internet and promote the new pieces on blogs and social networks.
What is your favorite item in your shop?
My favorite item is probably the most popular: the Steampunk Rhinestone Ring, The Silver Steampunk Cufflinks & Smorkin Labbits Earrings
What is your best seller?
The three above are my best sellers.
Do you have a favorite Etsy seller?
Yes, it is probably the lady I buy glass colored jewels from weekendjewelry1. Her and I send notes back and forth all the time and cyber hugs and chit chat, so it is always a lot of fun to buy from her, plus the fact I know I am going to get quality product in record speed timing.
What inspires you?
That is easy. My daughter. She is VERY FASHION FORWARD…loves antique earrings, so that is how I got started turning antique pieces into neat earrings for her and when all her friends commented on how cool her earrings were, they said: Man your mom should sell those, I would so buy them. That it is…Purple Toes comes from her lavender toenails…(they are sooo cute when they are lavender).
What is your goal for 2010?
Oh I would love to increase my sales of course. I got a new computer, a new camera, so if I could perfect my pictures and get more creative, that too would always be a plus.
What is your favorite tool that you cannot live without?
Well, unfortunately it might be more than one: I love my Dremel Drill Tool and my camera, (plus, I really love the grinder & the torch)
How do you promote your shop?
Usually Facebook and Twitter.
Any advice for a newbie running his or her on-line shop?
Get your pictures pristine before you even start. It took me over a year to get my pictures good and when I did my shop took off. Don’t waste as much time as I did.
During this recession time, tell us one thing that you do to save money?
I don’t have to drive anywhere. I use sometimes $0.00 in gas a week.
Here are more of her beautiful jewelries.

Hearts for Haiti
I'm so touched and impressed with the Etsy artists movement and along with them, I donated a couple of items below:
They were sold in a couple of hours. You may see more of my items in the shop soon :-)
You can help too. If you are an artist, you can donate your beautiful creations. And if you're not an artist, you still can help by buying handmade goodies (jewelries, arts/ prints, cards, clothes, kids stuff, etc) at this shop. Buy a lot of them and pay no shipping. That's right! The cost of shipping is incurred by the artists and all we need is your support.

Spotted Tuesday: Man's Best Friend
I've been missing my 'first' son and lately the feeling is stronger and stronger. Passing a pet shop on my way to the post office, I have to make a stop per Ethan's request, and that really reminds me of Mocha.
He is thousands of miles away from us now. You can read his adventure going to the other side of the world here. We miss him so much but we're assured that he's taken good care of (and spoiled) by my in-laws and it's best for him to be there for now until our life is steadier.
I dedicate this Spotted Tuesday to my furry son.

Saturday Artisan: ModernClassicsKids/ ModernClassicsPaper
Tell us a bit about yourself and what arts/ crafts that you make?
I’m a happily married Mommy with a BFA in Textiles. Funny thing is my loom & spinning wheel have been collecting dust in my basement for the past 5 years. I’ve since found my calling in the paper industry. I’m drawn to all things paper…books, stationery, calendars, photography, hence, my two shops: ModernClassicsKids & ModernClassicsPaper.
What is your best seller?
I’d say my best seller in my Kids’ shop are my bookplates ~ the Baby Shower Bookplates to be specific. They’re a great accessory to any Baby Shower & the perfect gift for the Baby-to-Be!
As far as my photography goes, Summer Swings takes the prize!
How does your day go in general?
As of late, my schedule has changed. After my son began Kindergarten this year, I found myself with lots of “ME time” & tons of room for creativity and networking. Just when I got used to my new routine, I got a surprise called from a previous employer who presented me with an offer I couldn’t refuse. On top of all that, a friend with her own dog-walking business added me to her staff as well. So, I’m one busy gal! It can get a bit hectic at times but I love keeping busy!
What is your favourite tool that you cannot live without?
I could not live without my laptop! I’m not one to sit idle, so even when I have time to relax, I’m creating. It’s just how I unwind!
How do you promote your shop?
I’m still working hard on networking. That’s my downfall, whatever free time I have, I tend to spend it either playing with my family or creating new pieces for my shops. By the time, it comes to promoting, I’m wiped out. I’m getting better though and have been blogging, tweeting, Facebooking & creating a customer database for email advertising. It is paying off but I know I need to be more diligent in 2010.
Look at Jaimee's workspace, so neat and organized! Inspiring! I would love creating in that room.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's giveaway sponsored by ModernClassicsPaper. I'm sure you will love it!

Whoo Hoo! Gorgeous Card Is Mine
The card came on the mail yesterday and believe me that it's one gorgeous card I've ever seen, full of details ... details ... and details. And the artist, it's Susan from Killam Creative. I always adore her creations and I included her in one of my Spotted Tuesdays (read it here).
So pretty, right? Now this is what I call an A.R.T.!! Don't expect to get this card on the mail from me cause I'm that selfish to keep it myself. Lol.

Saturday Artisan: StudioSeventyFive
Meet my first Saturday Artisan ever! Jennifer of StudioSeventyFive
Tell us a bit about yourself and what arts/ crafts that you make?
I am a happily married, stay at home mom of two wonderful boys and I've been making jewelry for over 4 years now. I've always been been into creating and also knit, scrapbook etc... but I really fell in love with making jewelry and have put all other things aside to focus on it.
What is your favourite item in your shop?
I feel such a personal connection with so many of my pieces that it's really hard to pick a favorite. If I had to choose I'd say I really love my "Tres" necklace. It is simple and calming and I just love the color combination of the stones.
What is your best seller?
I have sold a variety of things, so I don't really know that I have a best seller at this point.
How does your day go in general?
I check my emails in the morning and then get the kids off to school. I do alot of picture taking and computer related things while the kids are at school. Most of my creating is done late at night. Ideas often pop into my head at 10:00pm or later which does not lend itself to a good nights sleep.
Do you have a favourite Etsy seller?
I can't really pick a favorite. I am a huge fan of the handmade soap on Etsy. I've tried alot of them and am hooked. I will never buy store bought soap again!
What inspires you?
Anything and everything! I am very inspired by nature and my surroundings. I also love reading magazines to see the latest trends in jewelry.
What is your goal for 2010?
My goal is to do more selling off Etsy. I did my first craft fair Dec. 2009 and really loved having the personal connection with my customers. I'm planning on doing several more in 2010.
What is your favourite tool that you cannot live without?
I don't have a favorite. I need them all!
How do you promote your shop?
This is where I am lacking. I don't have alot of time to promote. I have had a few blog features and spend some time in the forums. I tried twitter for a few months but found it very time consuming with little results. I guess it's something I need to work on.
Any advice for a newbie running his or her on-line shop?
Pictures should be one of the main focuses when running an online shop. It all boils down to how the public connects with your product and good pictures really make the difference. Of course, I haven't perfected it yet and still work on taking better pics every day.
During this recession time, tell us one thing that you do to save money?
I actually buy alot of my supplies on Etsy. I find better prices and great sales! I've actually saved alot of money this way and feel like I'm supporting the Etsy community.
I enjoyed chatting with Jen. She is very friendly and responsive, a sign of GREAT seller. When the word "scrapbook" came up, I had to ask her to share with me her pages.
And this is her descriptions to the pictures (starting from the top left picture):
The bathtime page is my youngest, Aidan. It was his first bath and as you can tell he was not thrilled. I just cut out a bunch of circles in different colors to look like bubbles and I think it came out great. Aidan actually loved baths after the initial traumatic one.
And the last page is just simple and fun. It's my oldest Caleb in his jolly jumper. I found stickers that said "Play Time and "Bouncing Baby Boy", and thought they were perfect.
And wait! There is more. Jennifer is sponsoring a giveaway and it starts tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Happy New Year
Wishing you all the best in this year of 2010.
Hope you had a great holiday. This is the first year Ethan opening his Christmas presents. Being 2, he's old enough to ripe off the wrapping papers and it was fun watching him doing that, being intriqued by what it's inside. I could see his eyes lighten up as soon he saw toys inside. Too many toys in fact and he was somewhat overwhelmed. Lol.
Talking about 2010, do you have new year resolutions yet? I have some on my minds, goals that I would like to accomplish in 2010 and hopefully be able to jot them down in a few days. One of my goals is to be more consistent on my blog posts. I'd like to post as often as I can. Posting everyday maybe hard to do right now so I try to commit doing one thing at a time.
I hope you like the Spotted Tuesday series. I would love to hear your feedback on this and if you have any suggestions on ways to improve this, please do let me know.
A new series that I've been working on is Saturday Artisan. I've a few wonderful artists already booked for January and February. They are sponsoring a giveaway too. Yipee!!
Saturday Artisan starts tomorrow! I can't wait :-) Stay tuned!
If you're interested to be featured, I mean seriously interested, then please contact me. Unfortunately, people say they're interested and I contacted them and then I have not heard anything from them for weeks. Details to be featured can be found here.
